I'm glad that you got Bluecore back in action :-D
However, if the problem was the faulty screen, then usually you're able to start the computer using an external monitor.
So, I suspect that they said "screen", and meant "faulty or desoldered graphic card, that required us to replace the motherboard".
This may explain also why the stains are still here, and why the touchpad button got fixed - whatever thing made it hyper-sensitive, it fell off while dismantling the machine. Just my two cents ;-)

Indeed, that appears to be the case! I didn’t think of checking the BIOS logs before — they now start at 2011-05-08 instead of the previous nonsensical date. That, and all other settings (virtualization, fan always on, language, etc.) got reset.
